Calgary Flames add veteran leadership by signing free agent Troy Brouwer

CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have reportedly added a veteran presence — and a Stanley Cup champion — to their right wing. Less than a half-hour into Friday’s free-agent frenzy, word spread the Flames have signed Troy Brouwer to a four-year deal worth US$4.5-million per season. Meanwhile, the Flames have reportedly signed Chad Johnson to serve as their backup netminder. Brouwer, who turns 31 in August, is currently building an off-season/retirement home in Calgary. In 613 career contests at hockey’s highest level, Brouwer has totalled 150 goals, 294 points and 457 penalty minutes.
