CALGARY—When design details for Calgary’s Central Library were unveiled in 2014, Mayor Naheed Nenshi called the building a “new icon” for the city. More than that, the Central Library has been a community centre and an education space. That’s what Godfrey Balimugulira has found while turning the Central Library into an office of sorts from which to work. Much has been made of the Central Library’s design since it opened, with its curving cedar walls, glass-panelled exterior and wood-lined atrium. That sense of community, and the variety of offerings the library brings with it, is what Christina Jahn has liked most about exploring the Central Library in the last year.
