Regarding “Notable & Quotable: ‘Beach’” (Sept. 26): California State Long Beach finally is moving on from its mascot Prospector Pete, an offensive symbol of the 1849 California Gold Rush when indigenous peoples of California endured subjugation, violence and threats of genocide.
