Cabinet to discuss proposal for visas on Middle Eastern visitors tomorrow

BAGAN DATOH: The proposal to impose visa requirements on visitors from the Middle East to Malaysia is set to be discussed in the Cabinet meeting tomorrow. NSC secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad on July 9 had proposed that the government impose visa requirement on citizens from Middle Eastern countries. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government had received the proposal mooted by the National Security Council (NSC), which is aimed towards curbing the Daesh (Islamic State) threat in Malaysia. This, he said, was to enable the authorities to better monitor the entry of individuals linked to militant activities. “We will bring this proposal for discussion in the Cabinet as we need to seek the views and recommendations from other ministries, especially the Tourism Ministry," said Zahid, who is also Home Minister.
