Amid the looming fear of the third wave of COVID-19, the Indian Sars-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has said that the Delta variant of the coronavirus is still the main variant of concern and that the other variant of concern are now negligible in sequencing data from India. The bulletin said, "Delta, including B.1.617.2 (AY) and AY.x sublineages, continues to be the main VOC globally. The bulletin further affirmed that in India, Delta (B.1.617.2 and AY.x) is still the main variant of concern (VOC). After Diwali and the festival season in India, several states and cities have reported a swift rise in COVID-19 cases. For the unversed, the Delta variant of COVID-19 was first identified in India in October 2020.
