Central Michigan University offered 58 prospective students additional scholarship money after an admissions portal error prompted notification to them that they’d won full-ride scholarships. All 58 were already in line to receive thousands of dollars in scholarships. University officials apologized for the error Wednesday night, and offered all 58 prospective students the equivalent of a full-tuition scholarship. “We deeply regret the disappointment and frustration caused by the test message error in the student portal,” CMU spokesman Aaron Mills said in a statement. Prior to the error, all 58 were in line to receive at least $4,500 in scholarship dollars, said John Veilleux, CMU’s chief marketing officer.
