Bengaluru: In a significant development, Karnataka State Commission For Backward Classes submitted the much debated Socio-Educational Survey popular as caste census report to the State Government on Thursday. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah received the report from Chairman of the Commission Jayaprakash Hegde at Vidhana Soudha. Siddaramaiah said “I have received the report, but I have not gone through the contents of the report. The timing of the report ahead of Lok Sabha elections has raised many eyebrows, with the leaders of Veerashaiva- Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities, the two major castes in the State crying foul. The MLAs irrespective of party, including ruling Congress’ Vinay Kulkarni and Vijayananda Kashappanavar, both Veerashaiva- Lingayat leaders have reiterated their objection to the caste survey report.
