LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that kites have returned to Lahore’s skies after 25 years as Basant festivities began in the provincial capital. In her message on the occasion of Basant, the chief minister urged citizens to celebrate the festival responsibly and strictly follow safety standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the event remains safe for everyone. “Let us all celebrate our happiness with responsibility and make this Basant safe for all,” she said, while also thanking Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for restoring joy and peace to Punjab and Pakistan. Maryam Nawaz also shared a video on social media showing kites flying across Lahore’s skyline. Basant celebrations began across Lahore on Thursday night, with people taking to rooftops and streets, dancing to drumbeats and chanting “Bo-kata” throughout the night.
