On Monday, the CBI had filed a case against INX Media directors Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea, Karti Chidambaran, Karti’s company Chess Management Services and Advantage Strategic Consulting Ltd through its director Padma Vishwanathan. The CBI had brought charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, taking gratification by corrupt or illegal means, to influence public servant and criminal misconduct. Chidambaram denied any wrong-doing, and said the government was trying to silence his voice by using the CBI and other agencies to target his son. The CBI has alleged that Karti used his influence in the finance ministry to help INX scuttle the probe against it. BJP lawmaker Subramanian Swamy said the raids were linked to litigation he has brought over the approval of a 2006 telecom deal he alleges was corrupt.
