more-inThe Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has sought a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the role of dealers in the forgery of documents to register luxury cars owned by Keralites in Puducherry to evade the 20% motor vehicle tax for vehicles above ₹20 lakh. The Crime Branch has been asked to carry out the investigation as criminal case had to be registered for pursuing the probe against the automobile dealers and staff, official sources told The Hindu. Already, the Crime Branch is probing the alleged forgery of documents committed by actors, businessmen, and politicians for registering their vehicles in Puducherry. Joint Transport Commissioner and Secretary, State Transport Authority, Rajeev Puthalath said they had obtained evidence of the involvement of dealers and their staff. “We will be soon take steps to issue memo to them and even cancel the trade certificate,” the Joint Transport Commissioner said.
