The 2029 edition, originally scheduled for the standard two-year cycle, will be brought forward to align with the new schedule according to CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe. The Africa Cup of Nations has taken place every two years since the 1968 edition in Ethiopia, with a one-year gap between the 2012 and 2013 editions in Gabon & Equatorial Guinea and South Africa respectively.
