NEW DELHI: Procuring a smart tag for seamless travel through all toll plazas on national highways just got easier. The other app, FASTag Partner, launched for business to business (B2B) purposes, will activate the old RFID tags and these will be converted into FASTags.This will ensure activating about 74 lakh dormant RFID tags, which had been installed in vehicles after a government notification of 2013. The notification had made it mandatory for every manufacturer to fix the RFID tags in the factories itself. People can even order tags online.NHAI's chief general manager (IT) Akhilesh Srivasatava, who developed the two apps, said Indian Highways Management Company has obtained all the details of vehicles and their owners, which have dud RFID tags. One lane in every toll plaza will be a dedicated FASTag lane where no cash will be accepted.Till now about six lakh FASTags have been sold and activating the 74 lakh dud tags will push the electronic toll collection across all NHs.
