The Turkish construction industry expands abroadTurkey’s construction and contracting industry has been at the forefront of the country’s economic development. The Russian financial meltdown in 1998 led to the suspension of Turkish construction projects. Turkish construction activities in Russia slumped again in late 2016, due to political tensions between Moscow and Ankara. In addition to diversifying their overseas markets, Turkish contractors have differentiated the type of work they perform. Turkey’s construction companies have figured prominently as agents and beneficiaries of Turkey’s ambitious, multidimensional Africa strategy.
