The Celtic midfielder has come out of international retirement to make himself available for the Group F fixture, which could make or break Scotland’s hopes of reaching the 2018 finals in Russia. While the former captain is expected to replace one of those who occupied central midfield for the games against Malta, Lithuania and Slovakia, Mark McGhee, Scotland’s assistant manager, insists that no decision has been taken. “We have very strong midfielders,” McGhee said. “We have James McArthur, James Morrison, who was excellent for West Brom at Leicester on Sunday, Darren Fletcher.
