Senior Labour MP Keith Vaz is likely to face an inquiry by the parliamentary standards commissioner after he reportedly paid male prostitutes to visit him at his London flat, putting a question mark over his high-profile political career. Indian-origin Vaz, who is chairman of the influential home affairs committee, is expected to formally announce his resignation from the panel after meeting its members on Tuesday. The Charity Commission is also examining reports that a Vaz-related diabetes charity, Silver Star, paid the male escorts. A Charity Commission spokesman said the organisation was aware of allegations made regarding an individual linked to the charity Silver Star. The home affairs committee that he chairs is looking into a shake-up of prostitution laws and also investigates vice and drugs.
