The civic body felt escalators would entice people to use a footbridge. At the monthly councillors' meeting at the civic headquarters, mayor Sovan Chatterjee said on Monday the civic body was trying to sort out some problems. The staircase and the escalator leading to the bridge won't be parallel but will face each other, a civic engineer said. But to build them, the civic body needs 25m of land on either side of the road. The civic body has planned four footbridges - at Ballygunge, opposite the racecourse gate, in front of Alipore zoo and at the Exide crossing.
