India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China's President Xi Jinping, who met in Xiamen on Tuesday on the margins of the Brics Summit, have agreed that more must be done to improve mutual trust and that peace along the border is a prerequisite for better ties. Modi and Xi – premiers of the world's fastest growing economies - met barely a week after the two countries ended a tense military face-off in Doklam, a Himalayan plateau controlled by China but claimed by Bhutan. The Himalayan plateau is important for India as it connects it to its remote northeastern states. Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement that healthy, stable ties were in the interest of both countries. On Monday, the Brics grouping bracketed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiyaba and Jaish-e-Mohammad with global terror groups Al-Qaeda and Islamic State – a big win for India.
