Modi and (right) Aziz Amritsar, Dec. 3: Pakistan's top diplomat Sartaj Aziz broke bread with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tonight and sent a bouquet of flowers to ailing foreign minister Sushma Swaraj as the neighbours moved tantalisingly close to breaking the ice after months of spiralling tensions. Aziz, the adviser on foreign relations to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, had earlier in the day sent a bouquet of flowers to Sushma through the Pakistan high commission, with a note wishing her "full and speedy recovery". But India and Pakistan sent subtle signals through the evening that they were not averse to an ice-breaking conversation on the margins of the summit. By deferring the meeting, India has allowed space for a possible chat between Aziz and Doval or Jaishankar tomorrow. India accuses Pakistan of killing at least 20 civilians and 10 soldiers, two of whom were beheaded.
