Brawl ensues deadly clashes in south Tripoli

A southern suburb of Tripoli known as Ain Zara was a no-go land Saturday dawn as deadly clashes wreaked havoc in one of its neighborhoods. The story began as a checkpoint of Brigade 42 of the Interior Ministry did a routine stop of one of the cars that turned out to be for two brothers working at the Presidential Guard of the Presidential Council. The stoppage turned into a tense quarrel and then to a gunfight leading to deaths and injuries as well as to a later considerable material damage, as one of the brawlers' house was the scene for a Hollywood-style retaliatory gunfight at Saturday dawn. According to eyewitnesses, the two brothers of the Presidential Guard and the personnel of the Brigade 42 did some fistfight before guns prevailed leading to the killing of the deputy commander of the brigade named Ezzidin Kerwae and another person, besides injuring three others. Tension and unrest are still felt in the area of the fighting despite the evacuation of the house and burning it by the Brigade 42 members.
