Emergency services raced to pitches in Blackpool, Lancashire shortly after 5pm on Tuesday after reports a child had been injured. The victim was rushed to hospital with "serious injuries" but died a short time later, it has been confirmed. Lancashire Police have said that, while enquiries are ongoing, it is thought that the boy was struck by lightning. Spirit of Youth Junior FC, which uses the field, said the boy was taking part in a private coaching session, reports the BBC.
