BH Tilt debuted the surprisingly well-reviewed (and mostly enjoyable) Upgrade into 1,457 theaters yesterday in another one of their demographically-targeted semi-wide theatrical releases. That’s ahead of the $3 million weekend projected by tracking, and it is, by default, BH Tilt’s second-biggest debut behind The Darkness ($4.9m in 2016). I kind of hate the idea that I’m discussing the notion of a 1,400+ screen release earning a $4 million debut weekend as being a success, but that’s where we are now. Paramount/Viacom Inc.’s winning streak sadly ended at two, as the Johnny Knoxville comedy Action Point was essentially dumped into 2,032 theaters yesterday. Nonetheless, the horrific $2.315 million weekend is a whiff.
