Acme Burger, Gourmet Burger Co. and Gangster Burger were all cooked by the competition, and mega U.S. chain Carl’s Jr. disappeared almost as fast as a stack of sliders at a backyard barbeque. Gourmet Burger launched in 2008 with its signature Aussie burger (made with beef not kangaroo) and old style shakes, but didn’t survive expansion. Gourmet Burger Co.Its website remains active – even seeking franchisees – though its five former locations are not and haven’t been for years. And now 52-year-old Boston Pizza is going big on burgers with a new lineup of offerings launched last week, including a spicy perogy burger, a decadent dessert burger minus the beef and, of course, a pizza burger. It disappeared amid the onslaught of high-end gourmet burger spots.
