The Tory leadership candidate would raise the 40p income tax threshold from £50,000 to £80,000 if he becomes PM. Mr Johnson announced the move in a column for a Daily Telegraph for which he is paid £5,288 a week. That suggest he'd save £1,058 in income tax just on his own column that announced the cut. Yet Tories gave this same elite group a huge tax cut just three years ago by raising the threshold from £42,385. Lib Dem leadership candidate Sir Ed Davey said: "Is this a tax cut targeted on the majority of Conservative Party members?
