Boeing crash victims: Why US aircraft company is offering USD$100 million to families

Boeing said it will provide an “initial investment” of USD$100 million (AUD$142 million) over several years to help families and communities affected by two crashes of its 737 Max plane that killed 346 people. The Chicago-based company said some of the money will go toward living expenses and to cover hardship suffered by the families of passengers killed in the crashes. Pieces of the wreckage of an Ethiopia Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft are piled at the crash site near Bishoftu, Ethiopia. Lawyers who are suing Boeing on behalf of passengers’ families said the new USD$100 million promise won’t stop them from demanding that Boeing provide details about how the plane and the new flight-control software were developed. The lawyers said Boeing didn’t provide enough details about how the money will be distributed and spent.
