Boaties benefit from Coastguard lifejacket exchange programme


Boaties are being encouraged to trade in their old lifejackets, which can absorb water and cause the wearer to sink. JOHN BISSET The Old4New life jacket campaign gets rid of unsafe lifejackets. Last summer, more than 1200 old, unsafe buoyancy vests were exchanged, with some up to 50 years old. SUPPLIED A total of 13,500 old lifejackets have been traded in with Coastguard's Old4New programme. Old4New Community Ambassador Sue Tucker said 13,500 old lifejackets had been traded in through the programme's five years.
