LAHAD DATU: A Filipino man was rescued by local fishermen while a woman drowned, and some seven others went missing after their boat capsized in waters off Merabung in Sabah’s east coast Lahad Datu late on Thursday (Oct 24). “We were informed of the incident when the public called us at 3.05pm on Thursday to say that a man had been rescued from a capsized boat, ” he said. He added that efforts were now underway to search for the remaining seven victims from the boat. He is from Sibutui island in southern Philippines close to the border near Lahad Datu waters. It could not be immediately established if the victims were coming into east coast Sabah from the Philippines when the tragedy occurred.
