Court documents say charges against Laidlaw were filed by Environment Southland in August last year and his first appearance was in October. In December, Laidlaw, a 50-year-old farmer near Bluff, pleaded not guilty and elected a trial by jury. Court documents say his next appearance is scheduled to be a case review hearing in June. The maximum penalty for such an offence is two years prison or a maximum $300,000 fine.
