Since deadline day, the Jays have gone 8-1 and, wouldn’t you know it, Ray and Semien were front and centre in the latest win, in the opener of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Red Sox. The game could have turned in the sixth inning, when Verdugo hit what appeared to be a double-play grounder to third with one out. In order to avoid tripping, the Boston runner’s stride took him over the base itself and he never touched it. Gurriel touched the base, with the ball in his glove, before the runner touched the base. Luckily for the Jays, it only required two more pitches for Ray to get out of the inning.
