Schools across west Otago are closed as blizzard-like conditions buffet the south of the country. Much of the island's lower eastern coast is smothered in snow showers this morning, making driving hazardous and closing roads. However given it was a southwesterly flow, it wouldn't be as heavy on South Island ski fields. Clark said North Island temperatures should be similar tonight, thanks to cloudy skies, but would drop markedly in the South Island.
