Binay files bill to protect women

SEN. Nancy Binay has sought a law establishing the Address Confidentiality Program to provide women and children who were victims of violence additional protection and assistance. She filed Senate Bill 1827 which aims to create the Address Confidentiality Program to provide “a substitute address” in public records for victims of violence. The senator said Republic Act 9262 or the Anti Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 was enacted into law to protect women and children from violence and threats. “However, violence against women and children continue to increase in spite of the ongoing campaigns and programs of the government,” Binay said. Any DoJ employee who will disclosed the name, residential or mailing address of a program participant will be imprisoned for one year and will be fined P500,000.
