Robert Smith, the billionaire founder of private equity firm Vista Equity Partners, is the buyer of a $59 million three-story penthouse in New York, according to The Wall Street Journal. The previous Chelsea record holder was a $51 million penthouse in the Walker Tower in 2014. The Getty was developed by the Victor Group and development firm Shvo. He is also the first self-made Wall Street billionaire who isn't a white male. A former Goldman Sachs investment banker, Smith started his private equity firm Vista in 2000.
