Shylaya pointed out the legal hurdles in taking up the Bill moved by the legislator. : The first Private bill of the 14{+t}{+h}Kerala Assembly moved in the House on Friday is aimed at providing more welfare measures and bringing them under one roof, protection for indigent widows in the State and to rename widow as “privileged sister.”Moving The Kerala Indigent Widows Welfare and Protection Assurance Bill 2016, first-time legislator Pratibha Hari pointed out the plight of the widows, attitude towards them by society and the absence of data on their numbers. The Social Justice Department would take all steps to solve the problems encountered by widows, she assured the House. The Kerala Restriction of Construction Activities near Bird and Animal Sanctuaries Bill, 2016, moved by M. Swaraj, drew criticism as the legislators feared that there would be massive displacement of people. Quoting The Hindu report published in 2010 that there were 45 lakh widows in the State, the legislator said the numbers may have gone up over the last six years.
