A state legislator for Manhattan’s Upper East Side issued a public warning Wednesday: Watch out for hurricane-relief scammers. As Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico clean up after damaging hurricanes, swindlers have been posing as legitimate charity organizations to steal money from the unsuspecting, said New York State Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright, chair of the assembly’s Subcommittee on Consumer Fraud Protection.
