The Charities Regulator urged members of the public yesterday to ensure that any items they intended to donate through house-to-house collections were given to registered charities. John Farrelly, chief executive of the Charities Regulator, said that his office had received 30 reports this year from individuals who were concerned that people and organisations going from door to door collecting unwanted items were not operating on behalf of registered charities. “We are concerned not only by the quantity of reports we are receiving but also the increasing trend in this regard,” Mr Farrelly said.
