Benter Akinyi, a Nairobi resident has gone through brutality at the hands of men she trusted. During an interview with Radio Maisha, she revealed how a man called Felix repeatedly defiled her when she was young. Ms Akinyi recounted a particular incident in which Felix even poured acid on her face after she turned down his marriage proposal. She explains that after sustaining second-degree burns from the acid attack that happened one term before her KCSE exam she was undeterred and finished her high school education. Akinyi is one of many women who have survived gender-based violence in Kenya.
