“Where countries have adopted progressive legislation and policies to prevent violence, there is strong evidence it continues unabated in our region. Vica Larasati, a civil society representative, said: “The spaces for our engagement on women’s human rights are shrinking. “We should work together to change the mindset, especially [of] men and boys, through advocacy,” she said. She added that she is hopeful that many more countries will pass laws that address marital rape. The three day Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+25 Review is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (Escap), and the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
