All three cities are designated as a Bee City USA. The city approved a Bee City USA resolution in May and agreed to create a website, a yearly event and regular meetings of the Bee City USA committee. Harris brought the application before the city council in April, and he agreed to head a committee that will coordinate educational events and workshops, one necessary component to becoming a Bee City USA. Webster City Manager Deanna Naugler said being the first city in Florida to participate is “pretty amazing.”“We are planning a festival in the spring, and Bee City USA will be an important part of the day,” Naugler said. Harris learned about the Bee City USA designation from Jim Davis and Donna Lester, with the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Sumter Extension Office.
