Christchurch's Beckenham community has been shocked by the death of butcher and loved local identity Mark Banfield. Banfield, known as the Elvis butcher, died in a suspected suicide on Tuesday with his death being referred to the coroner. His butcher shop, Banfields of Beckenham, was known for its quality products and friendly service. "He was a big chunk of the Beckenham community because he was such a large personality. Hairdresser Merilyn Kane used a Beckenham community Facebook page to say Banfield was a key part of the Beckenham hub.
