How many times has the revival of the curly perm (usually alongside a picture of Sarah Jessica Parker in season one of Sex and the City) been written about in the past few years? Here’s my prediction: it is never coming back. What is happening is a celebration of natural hair textures – which means that your curls, coils, spirals and kinks are discouraged from being forced to follow straight-hair fashions. No good can come of fighting the hair type you were born with – at least not on a daily basis. I stopped blowdrying my own curly semi-afro hair (called a type 3C pattern in the biz) in the early Noughties – although I do allow professionals to do it for special occasions.
