Dr Sarah Horsman, warden of Sheldon, an independent retreat centre in Devon that supports those in ministry, claimed that the church’s internal disciplinary system was unfair and inconsistent. She was backed by Andrew Carey, the son of the former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey, who went further to accuse the Church of “throwing junior and retired clergy under the bus”.
