The Queenstown rescue helicopter flew to the site to find that Mr Bowler was ‘‘unfortunately deceased’’. The Caples River merges with the Greenstone River about 3km upstream from Lake Wakatipu, on the lake’s western side, opposite Pigeon and Pig Islands.
