Covid-19: Opposition slams 'callous, heartless' plans to drop MIQ for vaccinated Kiwis after Christmas

Thousands of families will still be apart this Christmas, Opposition parties say, with Government plans to let fully vaccinated New Zealanders self-isolate for a week only kicking in from mid-January. Demand for MIQ rooms has always exceeded supply, while the Government expects arrivals to number in the tens of thousands each week. But Opposition parties are calling for vaccinated New Zealanders to be able to skip MIQ in time for Christmas. There have been few Covid infections in MIQ in the past weeks, with one case reported on Wednesday. Kiwis looking to return home from Australia would be the largest group because it is the highest demand group on the MIQ voucher system.
