Baywatch: Of sunscreen, sambar and the sea

I’ve been to Marina Beach for all the early morning walkathons and rallies, and sometimes, just to see the sunrise. But what goes on at Chennai’s iconic beachfront when the rest of us are ensconced in our comfortable temperature-regulated offices? They’re too busy wolfing down hot idli and sambar and laughing to notice me; I keep walking. It’s about 35 degrees, I’m halfway down the beach, and my water bottle is already empty. Although the sea breeze has kept me cool for most part, it’s time for a refreshment break: a cold glucose drink at the next open stall.
