Bay of Plenty survived a late scare to hold off Hawke's Bay in Napier on Saturday evening and secure a spot in the Mitre 10 Cup championship semifinals. Bay of Plenty finish on the same competition points as Manawatu but having beaten them the weekend prior, they get the nod for the semifinals. In a game which Bay of Plenty dominated hugely, it was bizarre how Hawke's Bay stayed in the contest, in a match which meant nothing for them, with their relegation from the premiership already assured. Hawke's Bay halfback Brad Weber responded in just as fine a style, receiving from a lineout, dummying and scorching his way over, with the hosts levelling things back up.
