Witnesses said up to 10 police vehicles were outside the A&E with others in or near the car park. Essex Police tweeted: "We currently have officers at Basildon Hospital following an incident in another part of the county earlier this evening." Danny Wallis, who witnessed police arrive at the hospital, said: "They are not allowing any cars towards into the hospital. "There were a lot of police and members of the public standing outside A&E but don’t know whether they were sent outside." Basildon Hospital also tweeted: "Good evening to let you know that our Accident & Emergency department remains open to the public.
