The elderly California couple who claimed the 60 pounds of marijuana they were busted hauling through Nebraska was intended as Christmas gifts have been given probation and conditional jail time. Barbara, 71, and 80-year-old Patrick Jiron were sentenced on Monday to three years of probation, according to York County District Court records. They told authorities the 60 pounds (27 kilograms) of pot was intended as presents for family in Vermont and Massachusetts. When the Jirons were arrested in York County on December 19, they said they didn’t know it was illegal to transport marijuana through Nebraska. Now with that case closed, the Jirons look toward felony charges in Lancaster County.
