Banksy painting of chimpanzee MPs sells for record amount

Graffiti artist Banksy says he has been forced to open his own homeware store following a legal dispute involving a greeting cards company. One of street artist Banksy's best-known non-street works, a painting of chimpanzees debating in the British parliament, has sold at auction for more than £9.8 million (NZ$19 million) in London. Auctioneers Sotheby's had estimated the selling price of Banksy's 2009 oil painting Devolved Parliament at £1.5 million to £2 million. ITV News has unearthed an interview with artist Banksy from 2003, before he became one of the world's best known street artists. Peter Summers/Getty Banksy painting 'Devolved Parliament' achieved a record £9,879,500 in Sothebys Contemporary Art Evening Auction, after thirteen minutes of bidding.
