LONDON—The shredding stunt pulled by Banksy during a London auction was incomplete, the artist has implied in a new video posted on his website Wednesday. The mystery surrounding the partial shredding of “Balloon Girl” during a Sotheby’s auction in London grew with the anonymous artist posting new footage showing a “rehearsal” of the stunt ending with the artwork completely sliced up. Banksy’s canvas, originally titled Girl with Balloon, passed through a hidden shredder seconds after the hammer fell at Sothebys London Contemporary Art Evening Sale on Oct. 5, making it the first artwork in history to have been created live during an auction. Sotheby’s said the buyer, identified only as “a female European collector and a long-standing client” of the auction house, decided to continue with the purchase at the original price.
