At the Community and Public Services Committee meeting on Wednesday, the Edmonton Arts Council presented its updated plan called Connections and Exchanges. EDMONTON—A new 10-year arts and heritage plan has sparked debate about how Indigenous voices are reflected in the city’s art and culture scene. “The approach to incorporating Indigenous perspectives into Connections & Exchanges became clear after hearing the words of local Métis artist Molly Swain at one of the Indigenous consultations. Councillor Scott McKeen says the arts and culture plan is a broad plan that doesn’t get to the level of detail for specific funding or programs. He said he fully expects to see grants and programs for Indigenous artists come out of this plan.
