The bank confirmed in November its intention to close branches in Waimate and Geraldine in February-March as part of the closure of 38 BNZ branches around the country. Waimate mayor Craig Rowley said at Tuesday’s council meeting that he was watching the banking hub model that is being trialled throughout the country. “Mackenzie is and it seems to be working quite well.”Rowley said he had written to the BNZ chief executive asking why the Waimate branch was closing.
